Dear Friends,
We are truly blessed in our Catholic tradition in that every Mass enables us to interact with and deepen our relationship with Christ on multiple levels through both the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We unite with Him through the Eucharist, and as we listen to Holy Scripture during the Liturgy of the Word, we become more intimately familiar with the life, personhood, and the teachings of Jesus, fully human and fully Divine. Lectors have the privilege of reading scripture so that it may be heard and then broken open and illuminated in the homily to follow. In the process of preparing the readings, lectors are often inspired to look more closely at the scriptures and to become more familiar with the Bible.
The lector ministry also has other very practical benefits. For young people particularly, it offers a means to build confidence and to overcome the fear of public speaking in a safe and nurturing environment. If you, or someone you know, would like to join this all-important ministry, please note that we offer full training with a mentor and try our best to accommodate your preferences as to schedule and frequency of participation. If you have an interest, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or to Father Ogaze. I look forward to speaking with you and answering any questions you may have.

As a Lector, you have the task of making God present in the liturgy of the Word for our community. Lectors proclaim the Word and, when there is no Deacon present, the General Intercessions. A Lector must have a passion for scripture; an ability to interpret and understand scripture; and sufficient public speaking skills to proclaim the Word to the assembly. Training in the specifics of the ministry is provided throughout the year and Lectors are provided with a Lector Handbook with the weekly readings to assist in their proclamation and pronunciation.
Lord, invest me with your power as I prepare to proclaim the marvel of your message. I have prepared my readings, I have tried to understand what I am about to read. Help me to read, not just with my lips, but with my whole heart and soul. I believe in your Word, Lord, and I ask that your Spirit guide me to lovingly proclaim your goodness and promises. Amen.
